Zapata Quantum, Inc. announced on September 15, 2026, that its Chief Executive Officer, Sumit Kapur, has been selected by The Boston Business Journal for the publication’s annual Power 50: Movement Makers list. The recognition highlights Kapur’s leadership during a period of restructuring and repositioning for the company.
The Boston Business Journal identifies honorees based on nominations from the community and the publication’s editorial team, selecting individuals who are cultivating positive changes in business, economic prosperity, and community well-being in Greater Boston.
In a statement regarding the honor, Kapur noted that the achievement reflects the work of the entire Zapata Quantum team. He emphasized the company’s origins, stating that the innovation began in Harvard’s quantum computing lab and was supported by The Engine, which was built by MIT. Kapur described Zapata’s mission as building tools to help organizations close the gap between advancing quantum hardware and the applications that run on it.
The press release details that under Kapur’s leadership over the last two years, Zapata has undergone a successful restructuring focused on advancing quantum software applications. The company rebuilt its team around original leadership from Harvard’s quantum computing lab while adding experienced talent from companies including Palantir, Oracle, and Northrop Grumman. During this period, Zapata collaborated with NVIDIA to use agentic AI for accelerating quantum algorithm discovery.
The company’s scientific work was further recognized in 2025, with a study on quantum-enabled drug discovery collaborating with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the University of Toronto, and Insilico Medicine being named one of Nature Biotechnology’s Top 10 Papers.
Clark Golestani, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Zapata, commented on Kapur’s tenure, noting that the past year has been the most consequential in the company's history. Golestani stated that under Kapur’s leadership, the company has been rebuilt around its core strengths, added exceptional talent, and deepened relationships with industry leaders such as NVIDIA, IBM, and QuEra.
