TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew has cautioned users about the risks associated with granting artificial intelligence agents extensive permissions to their accounts and personal data. Speaking at the DBS Asia Future Forward Conference in Singapore on Monday, Chew warned that users may authorize agents to perform various tasks without fully comprehending the scope of those permissions.
Chew highlighted a specific concern regarding AI agents that possess access to credit card information. He suggested that these agents could make more purchases than a user intended because they might be "overly eager to deliver." He emphasized the importance of users understanding exactly what they have authorized when granting permissions to these agents.
In addition to his remarks to the public, Chew stated that TikTok is training its employees on the boundaries of acceptable use for public AI chats. The company is instructing staff on the types of information they should avoid sharing, including trade secrets and privileged legal information.
