The Hartford Insurance Group, Inc. has announced a leadership transition effective March 1, 2027. A. Morris Tooker, currently the Company's President, has been appointed as the next Chief Executive Officer. Simultaneously, Christopher J. Swift, the current CEO, will resign from that role to assume the position of Executive Chair of the Board of Directors.
Mr. Tooker, 57, joined The Hartford in 2015 as Chief Underwriting Officer. His career at the company includes serving as Executive Vice President and Head of Commercial Lines, Executive Vice President and Head of Middle & Large Commercial, and most recently President since February 1, 2025. In his current role, he oversees Business Insurance, Personal Insurance, Employee Benefits, claims, risk services, and sales and distribution. Mr. Tooker will also join the Board of Directors effective October 1, 2026, serving on the Finance, Investment and Risk Management Committee, with no compensation for that service.
The Board has approved a target total annual compensation opportunity for Mr. Tooker of $12 million, effective March 1, 2027. This package includes a base salary of $1.1 million, an annual incentive plan award target of $2.75 million, and a long-term incentive award target of $8.15 million.
Christopher Swift will remain employed by the Company until March 1, 2027, to ensure a seamless transition. During this period, he will continue to receive his existing compensation. Effective March 1, 2027, he will receive an annual base salary of $1.2 million and benefits until his employment terminates. He will also be eligible for a 2027 AIP award with a target opportunity of $2.4 million and a 2027 LTI award with a target value of $7.4 million. Upon termination, his outstanding stock options and performance share awards will receive retirement treatment. Mr. Swift intends to step down as Executive Chair in the second half of 2027.
