Tesla Inc. has postponed the reveal of its Roadster vehicle, moving the event from October 1 to October 15. The company cited severe weather conditions expected around the outdoor event as the reason for the delay. Tesla stated it had been monitoring conditions with local meteorologists and made the decision to reschedule to ensure the event could be held as planned.
In other automotive news, Ford Motor Co. reported a 6.6% year-over-year decline in third-quarter U.S. vehicle sales. The company sold 509,764 vehicles during the quarter. Ford noted that the decrease was largely driven by planned changes to its model lineup, specifically the phase-outs of the Escape and Lincoln Corsair. When these planned phase-outs were excluded, the company said total vehicle sales remained essentially unchanged from the same period a year earlier.
Separately, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the approval of updated Fuel Economy Standards by the Department of Transportation. The administration stated that the changes would end what it described as "CRAZY EV mandates" established under the Biden administration. The updated rules are projected to lower vehicle sticker prices by $1,300 on new vehicles and save more than $130 billion over a five-year period.
