Sagimet Biosciences Inc. filed a Current Report on Form 8-K on October 22, 2026, to update information contained in an investor presentation. The company stated that the updated presentation will be used during meetings with investors.
The presentation details the status of its lead drug candidate, denifanstat, a fatty acid synthase (FASN) inhibitor. Sagimet reports that denifanstat met all primary and secondary endpoints in a Phase 3 clinical trial (ASC40-303) for moderate to severe acne vulgaris conducted by its license partner, Ascletis, in China. The company notes that denifanstat was generally well-tolerated during this trial and an open-label extension (ASC40-304), with patients showing further improvement in IGA success and lesion count reductions compared to baseline.
Regarding regulatory progress, Ascletis announced that the denifanstat New Drug Application (NDA) for acne treatment was accepted for review by the China NMPA in December 2025. In the United States, the first patient was dosed in the AURORA Phase 3 clinical trial for moderate to severe acne in October 2026, with topline results expected in the second half of 2027.
The company also highlighted its follow-on FASN inhibitor, TVB-3567. This compound received Investigational New Drug (IND) clearance in March 2025. A first-in-human Phase 1 clinical trial was initiated in June 2025 for an acne indication; dosing for single ascending dose, multiple ascending dose, and food effect parts was completed, and the drug was generally well-tolerated. Phase 2 doses have been identified, and a proof of concept trial is anticipated to begin before the end of 2026.
Financially, Sagimet reported $257.6 million in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities as of June 30, 2026. This amount, combined with proceeds from a $115 million underwritten offering of Series A Common Stock completed in September 2026, is expected to fund current operations through mid-2029. This funding is projected to cover the readout of the denifanstat Phase 3 clinical trial and NDA submission.
