Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. reported certain less-than-truckload (LTL) operating metrics for August 2026 on September 3, 2026. The company reported that revenue per day increased by 12.4% compared to August 2025. This growth was driven by an increase in LTL revenue per hundredweight, which was partially offset by a 0.9% decrease in LTL tons per day.
The decrease in LTL tons per day was attributed to a 2.4% decline in LTL shipments per day. This decline was partially offset by a 1.7% increase in the average weight per shipment.
For the quarter-to-date period, LTL revenue per hundredweight increased by 11.3% compared to the same period in the prior year. Excluding fuel surcharges, LTL revenue per hundredweight increased by 4.8% over the same timeframe.
Marty Freeman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Old Dominion, commented on the results, stating that the company produced solid revenue growth for July and August. He noted that underlying demand trends remained relatively consistent as the quarter has progressed and highlighted the strength of the company's service as a driver for the improvement in LTL revenue per hundredweight.
