MSC Industrial Direct Co., Inc. announced on September 8, 2026, that Robert Kuhns has been appointed as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective September 14, 2026. Kuhns succeeds Greg Clark, who resigned as Interim CFO on that date but will remain with the company as Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller.
Kuhns brings over 30 years of financial experience to the role. He most recently served as Vice President and CFO of TopBuild Corp., where he helped grow the company's market capitalization from $6 billion to $14 billion prior to its acquisition by QXO, Inc. in July 2026. Prior to TopBuild, he held senior finance roles at Mohawk Industries, NCH Corporation, and Ingersoll Rand. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Shippensburg University and an MBA from Southern Methodist University.
In connection with his appointment, Kuhns received an offer letter dated August 19, 2026, which includes an annual base salary of $650,000. For fiscal year 2027, he is eligible for an annual incentive bonus with a target equal to 85% of his base salary. Additionally, he will receive an equity award with a grant date value of $1.5 million, comprised of performance share units and restricted stock units. He will also receive a sign-on equity grant of restricted stock units valued at $1.5 million, which will vest in equal installments over four years.
Kuhns will be based at MSC’s corporate office in Davidson, North Carolina. He will participate in the company’s Executive Severance Plan and Executive Change in Control Severance Plan, which provide severance payments and accelerated vesting of unvested awards under specific termination scenarios. The company stated there are no arrangements or understandings regarding his appointment other than those detailed in the offer letter.
