Moleculin Biotech, Inc. (Nasdaq: MBRX) announced on September 14, 2026, that new data regarding its lead drug candidate, Annamycin (naxtarubicin), will be presented at three scientific venues in September 2026.
The presentations will take place at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Conference on Pancreatic Cancer: New Frontiers in Biology and Therapeutic Development, scheduled for September 25–28, 2026, in San Diego, California, as well as two events in Wroclaw, Poland.
Three specific presentations are scheduled:
- Antitumor Activity and Organotropism: Waldemar Priebe, PhD, of UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, will present at the XIII Congress of the Polish Medical Diaspora (September 9–12, 2026). This presentation examines how Annamycin’s lipophilic structure drives it to concentrate in specific tissues and how this distribution relates to its antitumor activity.
- Topoisomerase II Mechanism: Dr. Priebe will deliver an invited lecture at the Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy, Polish Academy of Sciences on September 14, 2026. This presentation explores how Annamycin’s tissue distribution interacts with its inhibition of topoisomerase II, the enzyme target through which anthracyclines produce DNA damage.
- Immune System Activation: Angela T. Alistar, MD, of Morristown Medical Center, will present at the AACR conference. The abstract for this presentation, titled "Turning cold pancreatic tumors hot: Antitumor activity of Annamycin is partially mediated by CD8+ T cell cytotoxicity," remains under embargo until publication in the September 15, 2026 issue of Cancer Research.
Moleculin states that these presentations address distinct questions about Annamycin, including where it concentrates in the body, how it kills cancer cells, and whether it can enlist the immune system to do so.
The Company notes that Annamycin is currently in development for relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and soft tissue sarcoma lung metastases. The MIRACLE trial (MB-108), a Phase 2/3 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluating Annamycin in combination with cytarabine (AnnAraC) for AML, remains the Company’s primary development focus.
