Meta Platforms, Inc. has entered into a power purchase agreement with Constellation Energy Corp. to secure nuclear power for its operations. The deal involves a 20-year contract to purchase 690 megawatts of electricity from the Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant in Maryland.
Calvert Cliffs is a 1,790-MW facility and serves as Maryland’s only nuclear power plant. The agreement is expected to support more than $3 billion in infrastructure investment in the state. This includes approximately 190 MW of new emissions-free generating capacity scheduled to come online between 2030 and 2032.
Constellation CEO Joseph Dominguez described the agreement as a demonstration of how private investment can strengthen critical energy infrastructure. The partnership is also intended to support Constellation’s efforts to renew Calvert Cliffs’ operating license for another 20 years. Currently, the plant supplies about 80% of Maryland’s clean electricity and generates enough power to serve more than 1.3 million homes.
Meta and Constellation also entered a separate retail electricity supply agreement covering Meta’s operations across the 13-state PJM power market.
