Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ: META) CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Thursday that the company has released the Muse Spark AI model as an open-weight model. The announcement was made via a post on X, where Zuckerberg highlighted the model's compatibility with Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) latest Mac Studio hardware.
Zuckerberg credited Apple CEO John Ternus for the successful integration, stating that the model runs effectively on the new Mac Studios. The release allows developers to access the model’s trained parameters, enabling them to download, adapt, and run the technology on their own infrastructure rather than relying exclusively on Meta's proprietary services.
According to the report, Muse Spark contains 816 billion total parameters, with 42 billion active at a time. The model supports a context window of up to 1 million tokens, allowing it to process large amounts of information in a single interaction. Meta stated that developers can run the model locally using two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studio computers, and it is also accessible through select application programming interface providers.
The move extends Meta's strategy of making AI technology accessible to developers, following the previous release of the smaller Muse Glimmer model in August. The development comes as Meta’s Muse AI agent competes with Apple’s Siri, challenging Apple's control over shopping, travel bookings, and payments despite strong iPhone sales.
Regarding the company's stock, Meta closed at $736.72 on Thursday and slipped 0.45% to $733.39 in after-hours trading.
