LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman has argued that the current wave of capital investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure is a primary factor preventing the U.S. economy from entering a recession.

In remarks made on the 'Newcomer' podcast, which was released on Friday, Hoffman stated that the massive capital flowing into the sector is 'the only reason we're not in a recession.' He suggested that this spending is sustaining economic activity across various sectors.

Hoffman noted that while the capital is often perceived as flowing solely to technology companies, a significant portion is actually directed toward data center construction. He highlighted the broader economic impact of this construction, noting that it provides employment for construction workers, carpenters, real estate agents, electricians, and lawyers. He also emphasized that this capital infusion is 'more distributed across the country' rather than being concentrated in a single region.

Additionally, Hoffman called on data center developers to ensure that local communities benefit fairly from the construction projects.
