JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) shares are declining on Tuesday, retreating from recent highs as financial stocks face broad pressure. The stock is down 3.12% at $341.07 at the time of publication, according to Benzinga Pro.

The decline comes as traders rotate capital away from cyclical, rate-sensitive sectors and into defensive areas like technology. The broader financial sector is underperforming, sitting at the bottom of the 11 S&P sectors with a loss of 1.89% for the day, despite a 2.11% gain over the past three months.

Investors are recalculating the impact of this week’s rate increase on banks' net interest income. Additionally, JPMorgan is facing specific headwinds related to the rise of artificial intelligence. Concerns are growing that AI shopping agents could disrupt traditional payment and financial companies.

This anxiety is being fueled by recent partnerships involving Meta Platform Inc. (NASDAQ: META). PayPal Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: PYPL) announced a tie-up with Meta that allows customers to use Muse AI agents for shopping and checkout. Shopify Inc. (NASDAQ: SHOP) also moved higher Tuesday after announcing a partnership with Meta to connect its merchant network directly to Muse, enabling shoppers to complete checkout through Shop Pay.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the Shopify integration on X, stating, “Teaming up with Shopify to make shopping and checkout easier in Muse.” These deals route commerce and payments through Meta’s AI agent rather than traditional bank-linked rails, raising questions about the future role of traditional financial institutions in consumer transactions.
