International Paper Company reported preliminary, unaudited financial results for the fiscal quarter ended September 30, 2026, revealing a net loss for the period. The company recorded a loss from continuing operations of $1.10 billion, a figure driven primarily by a non-cash goodwill impairment charge of $1.38 billion related to its Packaging Solutions EMEA business segment. Despite the net loss, the company reported adjusted EBITDA from continuing operations of $843 million.

Financial performance varied by business segment. The Packaging Solutions North America segment reported operating profit of $427 million, while the Packaging Solutions EMEA segment posted an operating loss of $73 million. Net sales for the quarter totaled $6.20 billion.

International Paper also provided financial targets for its Packaging Solutions North America business segment. The company anticipates operating profit of $460 million to $500 million for the fourth quarter of 2026, and full-year 2026 operating profit of $1.3 billion to $1.4 billion. Additionally, the company expects full-year 2026 Adjusted EBITDA of $2.27 billion to $2.31 billion.

The company is currently advancing the separation of its EMEA packaging business into an independent entity, which will be known as DS Smith plc.
