Flutter Entertainment plc has committed to a restructuring plan affecting its United Kingdom & Ireland (UK&I) business, as disclosed in a Form 8-K filed on October 20, 2026. The restructuring is a direct response to a significant increase in UK gaming taxation announced in the 2025 Autumn budget.
The plan is designed to mitigate the impact of these tax increases, which have fundamentally altered the economic model of the regulated betting and gaming industry in the UK. Flutter estimates that the associated costs will range from $80 million to $90 million in pre-tax charges, primarily consisting of cash expenditures for employee severance and benefits. These costs are expected to be incurred in the fourth quarter of 2026 and were previously included in the company’s updated guidance issued during its earnings update for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.
The restructuring is expected to result in a reduction in headcount of up to 1,400 employees. Affected colleagues include those located in Leeds, UK, and Dublin, Ireland, as well as staff at Flutter hubs in Porto, Portugal, and Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The company anticipates that the restructuring will be substantially completed by the end of 2026, subject to applicable legal and employee consultation requirements.
Flutter employs 28,500 people globally, with 9,000 working in the UK&I business. The company stated that the restructuring aims to preserve investment in its customer proposition and underpins its confidence in its ability to gain market share, despite the challenges posed by the tax hikes.
