First Citizens BancShares, Inc. (NASDAQ: FCNCA) has announced the completion of its acquisition of 138 branches from BMO Bank N.A. The transaction, which became effective September 4, 2026, was finalized on September 8, 2026, according to a press release filed with the SEC.

As part of the deal, First Citizens Bank assumed approximately $5 billion in deposits and $650 million in loans. The bank now serves clients through more than 600 branches and offices nationwide, expanding its footprint into the Midwest, Great Plains, and West regions. New locations include North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Idaho, western Minnesota, eastern Oregon, and southern Illinois.

To support the expanded network, First Citizens has appointed new regional leadership. These include Nate Downie as Regional Executive Vice President covering the Heartland, Sharon Thompson for the Northeast Region and St. Louis, Stacie Bales Barton for Community in the West, Monica Hummel for Kansas and Missouri, and Gary Piercy for Omaha.

The company also stated it will invest approximately $1 million across both existing and newly expanded markets throughout the Midwest, Great Plains, and West over the course of 2026 and 2027. This investment is intended to support local nonprofit organizations, civic leaders, and community partners.
