The Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta released preliminary unaudited financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. The filing indicates a decrease in both net interest income and net income compared to the same period in the prior year.
For the third quarter of 2026, net interest income was reported at $183 million. This represents a decrease of $29 million compared to the $212 million recorded in the third quarter of 2025. The decline was attributed to lower interest rates, which impacted interest-earning assets more than interest-bearing liabilities, as well as a decrease in average advance balances. The average daily Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR) during the third quarter of 2026 was 3.67 percent, down from 4.33 percent in the prior year.
Consequently, net income for the quarter was $126 million, a decrease of $29 million from the $155 million reported in the third quarter of 2025. This drop in net income was primarily driven by the decrease in net interest income. The return on average equity (ROE) for the quarter was 5.71 percent, compared to 6.95 percent in the same period last year.
Despite the decrease in earnings, the Bank reported an increase in total assets to $166.7 billion as of September 30, 2026, up from $146.2 billion at the end of 2025. Advances outstanding totaled $105.2 billion, an increase of $10.2 billion from the previous year-end. Investment balances also increased to $60.3 billion, driven by higher liquidity holdings. The Bank remains in compliance with all applicable regulatory capital and liquidity requirements.
The Bank’s board of directors declared a quarterly cash dividend at an annualized rate of 6.20 percent on October 22, 2026. The dividend will be calculated based on members' capital stock held during the third quarter and credited to accounts on October 27, 2026.
