CSX Corporation announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2026, reporting a record quarterly revenue of $4.02 billion. This figure represents a 12% increase compared to the same period in the prior year. The company reported net earnings of $1.05 billion, which translates to diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.57. This marks a 54% increase in EPS year-over-year.

Operating income for the quarter totaled $1.57 billion, a 44% increase compared to the third quarter of 2025. As a result, the company’s operating margin expanded by 880 basis points to reach 39.1%. Total volume for the quarter was 1.69 million units, an increase of 5% year-over-year. Intermodal volume specifically grew by 7% during the period.

CSX attributed the revenue growth to increased fuel surcharge revenue combined with higher volume and pricing across merchandise, intermodal, and coal segments. The company noted that excluding a non-cash goodwill impairment of $164 million recorded in the prior year, adjusted operating income, net earnings, and EPS for the third quarter of 2025 would have been $1.25 billion, $818 million, and $0.44, respectively. On an adjusted basis, the current quarter showed increases of 25% in operating income, 29% in net earnings, and 30% in EPS.
