Centrus Energy Corp. announced on September 17, 2026, that it has signed a definitive multi-year contract with Antares Nuclear to supply High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU). The agreement ensures a domestic source of fuel for Antares' advanced reactor projects, including those for space and national security missions.
Under the terms of the contract, deliveries of HALEU are scheduled to commence before the end of the decade. Antares has agreed to provide prepayments to support the expanded HALEU capacity at Centrus. The company noted that this arrangement adds another customer to its backlog and will help advance the buildout of domestic enrichment capabilities.
Centrus is developing HALEU production at its American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio, which the company describes as the only licensed HALEU production facility in the western world. The company recently launched a multi-billion-dollar expansion to include large-scale production of both HALEU and Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU).
Antares Nuclear is developing compact microreactors for defense and space applications. The company was recently selected for the U.S. Army's Janus Program at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; the Air Force's Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations program at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas; and a Space Force Strategic Breakthrough award to demonstrate a space reactor. Antares is on track to produce electricity from an advanced reactor in 2027, with initial production deployments to U.S. military installations beginning in 2028.
Amir Vexler, President and CEO of Centrus, stated that binding orders from Antares and others are supporting the company's expansion to commercial-scale production. Jordan Bramble, CEO and Co-Founder of Antares, emphasized that the contract provides a reliable, U.S.-origin source of fuel for the reactors being deployed for a wide variety of defense and space customers.
