CBIZ, Inc. announced on November 2, 2026, that it has been acquired by Grant Thornton Advisors LLC in an all-cash transaction valued at $5 billion. The merger was completed pursuant to an Agreement and Plan of Merger dated July 28, 2026, by and among CBIZ, Viking ParentCo, Inc., and Viking MergerCo, Inc., with Viking MergerCo merging into CBIZ.
As a result of the merger, CBIZ ceased to exist as a publicly traded company. The company’s common stock, which traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CBZ, was cancelled and converted into the right to receive $55.00 per share in cash. This payment applies to all outstanding shares held by stockholders who have not demanded appraisal rights. The company also terminated its Amended and Restated Credit Agreement with Bank of America, N.A., repaying all indebtedness under the facility.
The transaction creates the fifth-largest U.S. provider of professional services, tax, and advisory offerings. The combined entity, operating under the Grant Thornton brand, now generates more than $7 billion in annual revenue and employs over 34,500 professionals across more than 25 countries and territories. Jim Peko will continue as CEO of Grant Thornton Advisors.
Separately, CBIZ’s Benefits & Insurance Services segment has been established as an independent company backed by New Mountain Capital. Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC served as the financial advisor to CBIZ, while Deutsche Bank acted as lead financial advisor for Grant Thornton Advisors and New Mountain Capital.
