Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) shares rose nearly 1% on Friday as the industrial sector outperformed the broader market. Separately, Bloomberg reported that Indian carrier Akasa Air is in talks to order more than 200 Boeing 737 Max jets. The discussions are preliminary and may not result in a deal.
Akasa Air already has 183 unfilled orders for the 737 Max. The proposed deal would be worth billions of dollars before customary discounts. A decision on the potential new order could come in early 2027, with final terms possible later that year. The expansion is part of Akasa Air's plan to grow its fleet beyond 2032.
The potential agreement would further strengthen Boeing's position in India's fast-growing aviation market. Boeing's stock is currently trading below several key moving averages, including its 20-day SMA of $204.92 and its 200-day SMA of $221.08. The company's 52-week low is $176.77.
According to Benzinga Pro data, Boeing shares were up 0.86% at $198.49 at the time of publication Friday. The stock carries a Buy consensus rating with an average price forecast of $272, according to 12 analysts. The forecasts range from $250 to $305.
