Artiva Biotherapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARTV) announced on October 27, 2026, that it will discontinue all further development of its lead candidate, AlloNK (AB-101). The decision was made following a review of updated clinical data and recent safety events. The company stated that while updated data showed deep B cell depletion and clinical activity consistent with previous findings, the durability of the clinical response did not meet the threshold required to support continued development.

The discontinuation is driven by safety concerns and the overall risk-benefit profile. The company reported two Grade 5 events during its clinical studies. One participant experienced a fatal neurological event (leukoencephalopathy) following lymphodepletion with cyclophosphamide and fludarabine, which investigators assessed as likely related to fludarabine toxicity. A second participant died approximately two months after treatment initiation; this event was assessed as unrelated to the study treatment.

In response to the FDA's request following the first event, Artiva paused enrollment and dosing in its Phase 2a basket trial and the planned Phase 3 pivotal trial. Consequently, no additional patients will be dosed, and the Phase 3 trial will not be initiated.

To preserve capital while evaluating strategic alternatives, Artiva is reducing its workforce by approximately 94%. The company has engaged Leerink Partners as its financial advisor to assist in the process. The strategic alternatives may include a merger, business combination, sale or licensing of assets, or dissolution and liquidation.

As of September 30, 2026, Artiva reported preliminary cash, cash equivalents, and investments of approximately $319.1 million. The company expects to complete the workforce reduction in the first quarter of 2027 and to incur the majority of the associated costs in the fourth quarter of 2026.
