Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is reportedly preparing to unveil its first foldable iPhone, tentatively named the iPhone Ultra, at an event scheduled for September 9, 2026. The device is expected to be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
According to current reports, the foldable device will feature a book-style folding design. It is expected to have a 5.5-inch outer display that unfolds to reveal a 7.8-inch inner screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. When unfolded, the device is rumored to be only about 4.5mm thick, thinner than Apple’s current iPhone Air and the 13-inch iPad Pro.
Regarding pricing, the starting cost is reported to be between $2,000 and $2,500, with higher-storage versions potentially exceeding $3,000. The device is expected to use a chassis made of titanium and aluminum, with Apple reportedly targeting an almost invisible display crease and a durable hinge.
Speculation suggests that Samsung Electronics Co. (OTC: SSNLF) may supply the display panel, with Apple utilizing a customized manufacturing process to reduce thickness and improve the crease. The device is rumored to replace Face ID with Touch ID integrated into the power button and feature two rear cameras: a 48MP main and a 48MP ultra-wide lens.
Under the hood, the phone could feature Apple’s A20 chip, potentially built on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s (NYSE: TSM) 2nm process. It is expected to include 12GB of RAM, vapor-chamber cooling, a second-generation C2 modem, and a dual-battery setup with a combined capacity of roughly 5,400mAh to 5,800mAh.
The foldable is also expected to support MagSafe and eSIM-only connectivity. It will run on a version of iOS 27 redesigned for foldable multitasking, including side-by-side apps and dynamically resizable layouts.
Apple shares closed at $319.97 on Friday, down 2.51%. In pre-market trading on Tuesday, the stock declined 0.36% to $318.81.
