Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is reportedly developing two new wearable devices to expand its lineup beyond the Apple Watch, according to a report citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The first device is a screen-free health and fitness tracker. Described as resembling bands used by Whoop, the tracker is said to feature a fabric band with sensors designed to monitor heart rate and other health metrics. Bloomberg reports that former Apple CEO and current Chairman Tim Cook and services chief Eddy Cue are supporting the project. However, the report notes that prototypes have been developed but the product is not certain to move forward. If Apple proceeds with the tracker, it is unlikely to arrive before 2028.
In a separate development, Apple is reportedly working on an AI-powered pendant. This device is said to include a camera that could be worn around the neck or attached to clothing. The goal of this pendant would be to provide Siri with additional visual data to process. Development on this device has reportedly been postponed.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding these reports.
The company’s Wearables, Home and Accessories segment generated $7.88 billion in revenue in its latest earnings report, according to the July filing. This figure represents an increase from $7.40 billion during the same period the previous year.
On Tuesday, Apple closed at $339.75, up 0.23%.
