Apple Inc. (AAPL) has announced a new feature designed to verify the authenticity of photos taken on its devices. The company is introducing an "Apple Reference Image" standard that is intended to prove that a specific image was captured at a particular moment in time.
The filing details that Apple will support the "Synth ID" standard for identifying images that have been generated or edited by artificial intelligence. This move is aimed at helping users and platforms distinguish between authentic human-captured photos and synthetic content.
Apple specified that the "Apple Reference Image" feature will not be available in the European Union or China.
