AbbVie Inc. has updated its financial outlook for 2026 to include the impact of acquired intellectual property research and development (IPR&D) and milestone expenses incurred during the third quarter of 2026. The company reported that these specific costs are estimated at $216 million on a pre-tax basis.
According to the filing, this expense negatively impacts diluted earnings per share (EPS) by $0.11 for both GAAP and adjusted non-GAAP diluted EPS. As a result, AbbVie has revised its full-year 2026 adjusted diluted EPS guidance range to $13.76 to $13.96. This range includes the estimated $216 million expense for the third quarter.
The company also provided a specific range for the third quarter of 2026. The adjusted diluted EPS guidance for the quarter, inclusive of the acquired IPR&D and milestones expense, is set between $3.73 and $3.77. Previously, guidance announced on July 31, 2026, excluded the impact of expenses incurred beyond the second quarter of 2026.
AbbVie notes that acquired IPR&D and milestones expense may be incurred upon the execution of collaborations, licensing agreements, and other asset acquisitions. However, the company does not forecast these expenses due to the uncertainty surrounding the future occurrence and timing of such transactions.
